A newborn was admitted to the NICU at SICHN Mother & Child Care Hospital, Azam Basti, in very critical condition. The baby was struggling to breathe because of a serious problem called Meconium Aspiration Syndrome with PPHN.
Meconium is a baby’s very first stool. Sometimes, before birth, a baby passes it inside the mother’s womb and may accidentally breathe it into the lungs. This makes it very hard to breathe.
PPHN means the baby’s lungs do not open up fully after birth, so the body doesn’t get enough oxygen.
Both of these together are very dangerous for a newborn.
From the very first breath, this tiny baby was fighting for life. Our team of doctors and nurses immediately started intensive care. The baby was kept on a special breathing machine, given medicine to help the lungs, and cared for every moment. Slowly, the baby’s breathing improved, and step by step, the oxygen support was reduced.
After 15 days in the NICU, the little fighter was finally strong enough to go home no longer needing antibiotics or oxygen support, feeding exclusively on mother’s milk, and with regular follow-ups planned to ensure continued healthy growth.
From critical to courageous, this recovery is a story of strength, compassion, and expert care made possible at SICHN Mother & Child Hospital, Azam Basti.
