Karachi, 14 Nov 2023 - In commemoration of World Diabetes Day, Sindh Institute of Child Health and Neonatology (SICHN) renowned for its Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), hosted a series of impactful events to raise awareness about diabetes in children and adolescents. The celebration featured a range of activities aimed at fostering understanding, support, and education about diabetes, with a special focus on the hospital's young patients.
Dr. Jamal Raza a distinguished endocrinologist and the Executive Director of SICHN, expressed his commitment to the cause, stating, "As we mark World Diabetes Day, it is crucial to highlight the growing impact of diabetes on children and families. Our dedicated team at SICHN is determined to raise awareness and provide support to those affected by this condition. It is our collective responsibility to empower families with the knowledge and resources needed to manage and prevent diabetes in our younger generations."
The highlight of the day was an awareness walk, where staff, patients, and community members came together to demonstrate their solidarity in the fight against diabetes. The symbolic release of balloons served as a poignant reminder of the hope and strength required to confront the challenges posed by diabetes.
A medical camp was organized on-site, offering free sugar testing for attendees. This initiative aimed to encourage proactive health monitoring and early detection of diabetes in children. The hospital's expert medical team conducted informative sessions, addressing queries from parents and providing essential insights into managing and preventing diabetes in pediatric patients.
In addition to medical consultations, a dedicated parents counseling session was organized to provide emotional and educational support to families dealing with diabetes. The session focused on practical tips for daily management, nutritional guidance, and coping strategies for both parents and their children.
SICHN is proud to have played a pivotal role in World Diabetes Day, contributing to the global effort to raise awareness and advocate for the well-being of children affected by diabetes. The hospital remains steadfast in its commitment to providing exceptional care and support to young patients, empowering families, and driving positive change in the face of pediatric diabetes.
